How to tune a ukulele cleanly
The ukulele’s nylon strings settle quickly. A few passes and they stay put.
Pick your tuning
Standard is correct for soprano, concert and tenor ukulele. Switch to Low-G if your G string is wound rather than re-entrant, or Baritone for DGBE tuning.
Pluck one string at a time
Let it ring clearly and mute the others. The big note shows what pitch you are playing; the needle shows how far off you are.
Centre the needle on green
Flat is to the left, sharp is to the right. Tune up from the pegs if it reads flat, tune down if it reads sharp. Green and centred means in tune.
Re-entrant G note
The standard G string is tuned to G4 — higher in pitch than the C string. This is normal. If the detector reads it an octave low, pluck slightly harder and mute the other strings.
Common tunings, notes included
Three tunings cover the vast majority of ukulele playing. Standard re-entrant G is the default for soprano, concert and tenor.

Questions, answered
Does it work for soprano, concert and tenor ukulele?
Yes. All three sizes use standard GCAE tuning at A440. The tuner works across all of them without any adjustment.
Why does my G string sound higher than the C string?
That is correct for standard ukulele. The G4 string (392 Hz) is re-entrant — higher in pitch than the C4 string (261 Hz) on the third course. The tuner accounts for this automatically.
Does it work for baritone ukulele?
Yes. Select Baritone in the dropdown to switch to DGBE tuning. Baritone ukulele shares the same four highest-pitched strings as a standard guitar.
Do I need to download anything?
No. The tuner runs entirely in your browser. Mic audio is processed locally and never uploaded or stored.
