Apogee just dropped Clearmountain Dance, a new plugin built with mix legend Bob Clearmountain, and it’s all about recreating that iconic stereo delay heard on David Bowie’s Let’s Dance. It captures the dual tape-head delay setup Clearmountain used back in the 80s, giving your tracks that wide, rhythmic bounce that defined so many classic records!
The plugin runs a cascading ping-pong delay that records incoming audio into a buffer, then replays it with precise timing offsets between left and right channels. Stereo inputs keep their natural image while the wet signal is summed to mono and hard-panned for motion. Mono sources get turned into full stereo textures automatically.
There’s a Degrade knob for tape aging simulation, introducing wow, flutter, and harmonic wear for that analog unpredictability. You can fine-tune stereo timing using Offset (channel delay differences in milliseconds) and Skew (a rhythmic “swing” control), both of which add depth and groove beyond standard grid timing..
